Who should consider this rotation...

International medical graduates (IMGs) and students seeking hands-on patient care experience in Cardiology. IMGs seeking careers in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine will find this rotation particularly useful since cardiac problems are common in these specialties. 

Where will this rotation take place: 

At our Detroit, Dearborn, and Southfield Clinics located in the Metro Detroit area.​

Duration: 8-10 weeks

Hours: Monday -Friday 7 AM to 5 PM EST

What you can expect:

You will be under the supervision of a board-certified Cardiologist.

After a few days of observation, you will take on an increasing role in patient care (Please note that this is NOT a shadowing observership.  It is  a hands-on clinical experience) whereby you will:

  • Take patient histories.

  • Develop evidence-based therapeutic plans.

  • Present patients.

  • Write progress notes.

  • Educate patients.

  • Research the literature to answer clinical questions at the point of care.

  • Spend time with other Healthcare Professionals, front office staff, medical assistants, and nurses, to understand their roles and responsibilities.

You will receive regular feedback on your performance. 

Letter of Recommendation & Awards:

If IMG's and students meet the expectations and guidelines of the Heart & Vascular Institute rotation, the Externship Coordinator will provide the Physician with guidelines that will improve the quality of the letter of recommendation.
